A low, curved modernist building with bands of dark windows and a reddish fascia, fronted by slender trees, shrubs, and a tall pylon in flat pastel tones.

The Sterling Heights Athletic Hub gives local players a straightforward year-round option at 35630 Van Dyke Avenue. The city facility has nine indoor pickleball courts, six table tennis tables, a café, and a flexible meeting and event room.

The Hub is part of the voter-approved Pathway to Play and Preservation millage. For players, the practical difference is simple: Sterling Heights residents can join drop-in play at no charge, and non-residents can play for $5 per day.

Before you leave

The weekly activity grid is posted at myshpr.net. Our automated check could not load that grid, so visit it yourself and confirm the current skill block before traveling. The city FAQ says the schedule is available without describing a membership or login requirement.

How drop-in play works at the Athletic Hub

No membership is required. During daily drop-in play, courts are organized by USA Pickleball skill level. The city lists bands from beginner and advanced beginner at 2.0–2.5 through intermediate and advanced groups, helping players find games near their level without organizing a full foursome.

The city publishes seasonal building hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday for the Labor Day-to-Memorial Day period. Those are building hours, not a promise that every skill level has a court throughout the day. Check the weekly schedule for the exact drop-in block.

Lessons, organized programming, tournaments, and events have separate registration fees. The city describes those fees as modest but does not publish a single price that applies to every program.

Can you reserve a court?

Yes. The city FAQ says pickleball courts may be reserved up to three months in advance. Rental fees apply and are separate from daily drop-in play, so confirm the current rate through Sterling Heights Parks and Recreation before planning a group booking.

Outdoor pickleball in Sterling Heights

Hampton Park, at 4600 Franklin Park, lists a pickleball court among its amenities. It is an editorial city option in this guide, but it is not currently included in the Play Pickleball MI finder.

Red Run Park is another one to watch. The city’s project announcement describes six lighted outdoor pickleball courts, but the project is still in planning and the courts are not open yet. Do not plan a trip there until the city announces completion.

Nearby indoor clubs

Metro Pickleball Club in Clinton Township publishes $15 non-member open play and $15 non-member skill events. It is a useful nearby option when you want a reservable organized session outside the Hub schedule.

Life Time Shelby Township offers pickleball programming for members, including open play, instruction, lessons, organized programming, and court reservations. Program access and added fees depend on membership and activity.
